*Foot & Leg Massage

What is a Foot & Leg Massage?

A foot and leg massage is a therapeutic technique that involves applying pressure to, kneading and stretching the muscles, joints and soft tissues of the feet, ankles, calves and thighs. It can be done for relaxation, recovery or to address specific conditions.

What it involves:

  • Feet: Massaging the soles, arches, toes and ankles with strokes, thumb pressure and stretches.
  • Legs: Working on the calves, shins and thighs with kneading, gliding strokes and compression.

We use warm oil to reduce any friction and make movements smoother. A foot and leg massage is also calming for the nervous system, easing stress and anxiety as well as loosening stiffness in ankles, knees and toes.

This can also help with fluid retention in the feet and ankles, which relieves muscle tension and soreness, especially in the calves and arches. Helps blood flow back up from the lower extremities, which is especially helpful if you stand or sit for long periods of time.

How does it work?

A foot and leg massage works by combining physical touch, pressure and movement to relax muscles, improve circulation and calm the body.

Massage techniques (kneading, squeezing, stretching) release tension in the calves, shins and feet. It helps relieve muscle fatigue and cramps, often caused by standing, walking or exercising. Stretching and mobilising the ankles and toes increases flexibility and range of motion / movement.

The legs and feet are farthest from the heart, so circulation there can be sluggish. Massage stimulates blood flow, which delivers oxygen and nutrients to tissues and helps flush out waste products (like lactic acid) that cause soreness. Massage also stimulates the lymphatic system which reduces swelling in the feet and ankles.

The feet contain thousands of nerve endings and so gentle pressure activates these nerves. This can calm the nervous system and trigger the body’s relaxation response (lowering stress hormones, slowing heart rate).

Gentle mobilisation of the ankles, knees and toes helps keep joints flexible and lubricated. Massage reduces stiffness in fascia (connective tissue around muscles), making movement easier.

The soothing touch promotes the release of endorphins and serotonin, which elevate mood. It provides a feeling of grounding, relaxation and stress relief, especially since the feet are highly sensitive.

Benefits:

  • Improves circulation.
  • Relieves muscle tension and soreness.
  • Reduces swelling.
  • Supports joint mobility.
  • Promotes relaxation.
  • Supports overall body health.

Note Buffer Time

To help every appointment run smoothly, we include a small buffer around each treatment so the time length booked may be longer than the treatment time. This is to allow extra time for the completion of your consultation form, allow for any slight delays or natural treatment runover as well as preparing the room.

Our goal is simply to make your visit relaxed, unrushed and for you to enjoy the experience from start to finish. If you ever have any questions about timing or what to expect, we’re always happy to help.

Please Note: Those days marked with a line through them are for appointment only sessions, which can be booked if required, but will need to be booked by giving us a call.
